Electric Vehicles in the 1990s

The electric vehicles were developed back in late 1990s when the California law makers were in favor of vehicles with zero emission. Many auto makers started programs to create electric vehicles to sell or lease to the public.

However, soon the California law makers introduced mandates for many of the new vehicles to have zero emission. This was unrealistic and the auto makers retaliated, along with the Bush Administration.

General Motors Corp and Chrysler filed a lawsuit against California’s law makers. The Bush Administration joined them. Eventually, California’s law makers dropped the stringent mandate and auto makers are starting to work on electric cars again.
