The Literal Meaning of Biometrics

The etymological definition of  Biometrics  comes from two Greek words- ‘bios’ meaning life, and ‘metron’, which means measurement. So a literal transliteration would be a ‘life measurement’. This is not exactly true in the context of *biometrics today. Biometrics is essentially the quantitative analysis of movement and specific body parts. This analysis can be used in turn to identify individuals to a very accurate degree when a whole set of biometric variables are used in the right way. Now with technology, even machines can now identify people with the right kind of biometric information being inputted. This study is now especially important for the security industry.
